4 Reasons To Be Thankful for Truck Drivers This Thanksgiving

November 18, 2016 9:04 am Published by Comment

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! For many, the holiday is a time to gather ’round the table with family for delicious food and conversation, plan which shops to hit for Black Friday deals, watch football, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, or all of the above (if you’re still awake after digging into Thanksgiving comfort food). The holiday is filled with a lot of fun traditions, commotions, and excitement. But one thing to especially be thankful for this “turkey day” is the role that professional truck drivers play in making it happen.

Here are a few great reasons to be thankful for truck drivers this Thanksgiving:

1. Drivers miss out on a home-cooked meal.

While many American families are chowing down on Mama’s sweet potato casserole and apple pie, drivers on the road are working hard to deliver the goods our country needs. While there are even volunteer projects like Meals for 18 Wheels for truck drivers, it is nonetheless a big sacrifice to miss the opportunity for home-cooked Thanksgiving food.

2. They are away from their loved ones.

Thanksgiving is all about family time, so drivers being away from their loved ones during the busy holiday season is particularly a reason to be appreciative. While many people are getting time off from work, professional drivers are working extra hard. Without their dedication to keep the economy moving forward, none of us would really be able to enjoy the holidays.

3. They feed turkey to our entire nation.

If you’re eating turkey and all the sides to go along with it this Thanksgiving, it’s safe to say that most (if not all) of it has traveled by truck. Basically, your plate would be empty without trucks! Literally millions of turkeys are delivered to grocery stores around the nation to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner, and we have professional drivers to thank for making our bellies full on “turkey day.”

4. Black Friday wouldn’t be much of a hit.

Whether you’re looking forward to fighting through the Black Friday crowd for that flat screen TV deal, or the thought of leaving your house the day after Thanksgiving makes you squirm, there’s one thing for certain: the stores would be empty without drivers. Your favorite retailers would have barely-stocked shelves–or worse, nothing! Truck drivers deliver the items we need (or want) to buy, and make holiday shopping possible for us all.

This Thanksgiving and year round, be sure to thank a truck driver for their hard work and dedication moving America forward. Smith Transport wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday!
